‘Unbeatable contract for up to 17 years’

Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez (23), who won the American League rookie award last year, donated an ambulance to his hometown.

On the 8th (hereinafter referred to as Korean time), the official website of the major leagues, ‘MLB.com’, reported that Rodriguez donated an ambulance to the city of Rome de Cabrera in the Dominican Republic, his hometown. The city of Roma de Cabrera has so far not had an ambulance available for emergencies.

Rodriguez, who visited his hometown wearing a civil defense vest, was warmly welcomed with an ambulance bearing his name. Rodriguez, who received a special award from local figures, had a meaningful time by gifting toys and baseball equipment to the children.

Rodriguez’s generous contributions would not have been possible without his major league success last year. Rodriguez signed a contract with the Seattle Mariners in July 2017 for a contract fee of $1.75 million, and then went through a minor league training process to achieve his dream of debuting in the major leagues last year.

He earned American League (AL) Rookie of the Year honors after batting 2.8 4.0, 145 hits, 28 homers, 75 RBIs, 84 points, 25 stolen bases, and an OPS of .853 in 132 games. Along with the All-Star, he also won the Silver Slugger in the outfield category. Thanks to Rodriguez’s performance, Seattle also solved its fall baseball problem after 21 years.

Rodriguez, who is equipped with all three elements, showed off his potential as an influential player in the league from the first year of his debut. Then the Seattle club also moved quickly. On August 27 last year, I signed an early extension contract with Rodriguez, and the contents were very unconventional.  메이저놀이터

From 2023, up to 17 years, $470 million in ultra-long contracts, when all options are activated, Might Trout (LA Angels, 12 years, $426.5 million) extended contract in March 2019, surpassing the highest contract ever in the major leagues do.

It is an unusual contract, and the contents are quite complicated. First of all, the basic contract is 7 years and 120 million dollars from this year to 2029. After that, the contract period and amount vary greatly depending on the club, player, and mutual option.

Until 2029, Seattle must decide whether to use the club option after the end of the 2028 season, one year before the contract expires. When the club option is executed, the size of the contract changes depending on Rodriguez’s performance until 2029. Winning the MVP twice or finishing in the top 5 four or more times adds up to a 10-year, $350 million contract, up to a 17-year, $470 million contract.

If Seattle doesn’t exercise their team option, Rodriguez could exercise his player option after the 2029 season. If the five-year, $90 million player option is executed, it is $210 million over 12 years. It is a guaranteed contract condition for Rodriguez. If Rodriguez waives his player option, he will become a free agent at the age of 29.
